Note: Papaverine is an opium alkaloid used primarily in the treatment of visceral spasm, vasospasm (especially those involving the heart and the brain), and occasionally in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. While it is found in the opium poppy, papaverine differs in both structure and pharmacological action from the analgesic (morphine-related) opium alkaloids (opioids). Also used in: Papaverine may also be used as a smooth muscle relaxant in microsurgery where it is applied directly to blood vessels.

Papaverine Capsules is used for : Relieving decreased blood flow to the brain and body due to spasms in blood vessels. It is also used to relieve decreased blood flow to the heart complicated by irregular heartbeat. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Papaverine Capsules is a vasodilating agent. It works by dilating (widening) blood vessels, which helps increase blood flow. It also works on the heart to decrease irregular heartbeats.

Do NOT use Papaverine Capsules if: you are allergic to any ingredient in Papaverine Capsules Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you. Before using Papaverine Capsules:

if you have glaucoma, liver problems, or other heart problems (eg, angina, insufficiency, recent heart attack)

Constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; headache; loss of appetite; pain, swelling, or redness at injection site; stomach upset.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Papaverine:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); excessive drowsiness; fast or irregular heartbeat; prolonged or severe nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

How to use Papaverine Capsules : Use Papaverine Capsules as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Papaverine Capsules may be taken with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation.

Swallow Papaverine Capsules whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing.

If you miss a dose of Papaverine Capsules, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Papaverine Capsules, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Proper storage of Papaverine Capsules : Store Papaverine Capsules at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tight, light resistant container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Papaverine Capsules out of the reach of children and away from pets.
