GENERIC NAME: SEVOFLURANE (seh-voh-FLEW-rain)

USES
This medication is an anesthetic. It is used during surgical procedures.

HOW TO USE
This medication will be given by a health care professional. A special mask will be placed over your mouth and nose and the medication will be inhaled through the mask.

SIDE EFFECTS
This medication causes drowsiness and dizziness. Expect these effects. Notify your doctor if you develop: anxiety, chills, breathing trouble, unusual change in amount of urine, seizures, muscle stiffness, fast/irregular heartbeat, stomach/abdominal pain, fatigue, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine. A serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, persistent dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS
Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, kidney disease, liver disease, allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRUG INTERACTIONS
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly.

MISSED DOSE
This medication is only given as needed by a health care professional.

STORAGE
Store this medication at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
